Midcoast Maine Green Burial (MMGB) is a local, grass-roots volunteer organization formed to promote the creation of a green burial cemetery in Knox, Waldo or Lincoln County, Maine.

We intend to do this through education and advocacy while sharing our enthusiasm and information with our communities.
🌿 Warren Select Board Approves Green Burial Site
Warren’s Select Board has unanimously approved a new green burial site, scheduled to open in spring 2027, expanding the town-owned Newcomb Cemetery off Patterson Mill Road. Under one acre, the site will accommodate natural burials—featuring biodegradable caskets or urns, no vaults, non-toxic body care, scenic native plantings, an overarching mature canopy, winding ADA-accessible paths, and memorial benches. The initiative, championed by Warren’s Cemetery Committee and Sexton, aims to support environmentally minded and healing burial practices while preserving open space. [penbaypilot.com]

🎉 Congratulations to Teisha Hufnagel — Featured in the Midcoast Villager!
We’re proud to celebrate Teisha Hufnagel, an inspiring member recently profiled for her work as an end-of-life conversationalist and doula. Living in South Thomaston with her family, Teisha brings compassion and curiosity to how our community navigates death and remembrance.
In the article, she shares her love for the Midcoast—from peaceful walks in Thomaston Town Forest to her passion for local ice cream and green burial advocacy. Read the full feature: Meet Teisha Hufnagel

The Essence of Green Burial

Natural burial is more than just a disposition option; it's a choice that can resonate with the life and values you have lived if you have cared for Mother Nature as she has cared for you throughout your lifetime. Without artifice or waste, body to earth burial is a one-step, complete act that sequesters carbon, nurtures the microbial soil community, and contributes to the future of a sustainable planet for all. Burial on protected land is a gift for all eternity. Learn more about green burial.
